Serengeti Energy Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Phylip Leferink as the new Chairman of the Board, effective 1 July, 2024. Phylip initially joined the board in January 2024. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this pivotal role, having most recently served as the CEO of the Lake Turkana wind power in Kenya, Africa’s largest wind farm. He previously also served as a Director at JCM Power, Malawi, where he oversaw the construction and operations of solar projects.

Phylip Leferink’s career spans decades in the energy sector, with a focus on leading and managing complex energy projects across sub-Saharan Africa. His leadership at Lake Turkana highlights his deep understanding of renewable energy development and operational excellence, making him suited to guide Serengeti Energy as an IPP through its strategic initiatives in developing, building owning, and operating renewable energy power plants across SSA

“We are excited to welcome Phylip Leferink as our new Chairman of the Board,” said Anton-Louis Olivier, CEO of Serengeti Energy. “His proven track record in driving sustainable growth and his practical experience in managing renewable energy projects across Africa align with our goals as we continue to expand sustainable and innovative energy solutions for the clean energy transition in the African energy sector as an IPP.”

Phylip Leferink’s appointment follows seven years of dedicated service by Tore Horvei, who has served as Chairman of the Serengeti Energy board since 2017. Under Tore’s leadership and guidance, Serengeti Energy has achieved significant milestones, including the successful development of six operational power plants, various successful capital raise rounds, and a complex growth transition from responsAbility Renewable Energy Holding (rAREH) to Serengeti Energy.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Tore Horvei for his exceptional leadership and invaluable contributions during his time as the Board chair,” Adam Drosdzol, shareholder representative for KfW, remarked. “His strategic direction and wealth of experience have played a pivotal role in establishing Serengeti Energy as a key player in the renewable energy sector. As Tore transitions to his new role as the chair of the Investment Committee and continues to serve on the Board as a non-executive director, we look forward to leveraging his extensive industry expertise for the continued success of our organization.”

As Serengeti Energy looks forward to a new chapter under Phylip Leferink’s stewardship, the company remains committed to advancing its mission of sustainable energy development in Africa and delivering value to its stakeholders.
