Serengeti Energy, through its project company Ilute Solar Limited, is pleased to announce the signing of a Grid Connection Agreement (GCA) with the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) for the 25MWac Ilute Solar PV Project in Sesheke, Western Zambia. This milestone follows the successful signing of the project’s Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) at COP 28 in Dubai, in December 2023.
The Ilute Solar project is being developed by Serengeti Energy—an African renewable energy independent power producer owned by KfW, STOA, Proparco, Norfund, Swedfund, and NDF—as well as Western Solar Power, a Zambian renewable energy developer.
Located in Zambia’s Sesheke District in Western Province, the 25MWac Ilute Solar PV Plant marks an important step for Serengeti Energy, Zambia, and the Southern African region’s energy landscape. The plant will be one of the first major energy projects to connect to the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), leveraging competitive and open-access markets to integrate solar energy into Zambia’s national grid and support sustainable energy solutions for the region.
The Ilute Solar PV project represents a significant investment of approximately USD 37 million in foreign direct investment, reflecting Serengeti Energy’s commitment to strengthening Zambia’s energy infrastructure, creating local jobs, and contributing to economic growth. By introducing innovative PPA financing structures, the project also establishes a foundation for future investments in Africa’s energy sector.
