Lusaka, 18 September 2025 – Serengeti Energy and Kwama Energy are pleased to announce the signing of the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract for the 32MW Ilute Solar PV Project with Energy China. This milestone builds on the swift progress achieved since the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Africa GreenCo in December 2023. In December 2024, Ilute Solar successfully concluded and signed its Grid Connection Agreement with ZESCO, followed by the signing of the Implementation Agreement with the Government of Zambia in January 2025. Most recently, in June 2025 at the Africa Energy Forum (aef), Ilute Solar and its sponsors, Serengeti Energy and Kwama Energy, signed finance documents with its lenders (FMO, AfDB and Electrifi).

Signing of the EPC Contract is one step closer to construction of the Ilute Solar PV Plant, which is expected to commence anytime from November 2025, with completion targeted within 12 months.

Commenting on the signing, Brian Brooks, Chief Technical Officer of Serengeti Energy, said: “Partnering with Energy China to deliver this transformative project marks a significant step in our mission to expand sustainable power generation within the Southern African Power Pool. We remain committed to executing this project with efficiency and excellence to help meet the region’s growing energy demand.”

Head of Development at Serengeti Energy, Christiaan Coetzee, added: “With the EPC agreement now in place, our priority shifts to ensuring timely construction while upholding the highest quality standards. The Ilute Solar PV Plant will play a vital role in increasing access to clean energy and strengthening cross-border electricity trade.”
