The independent power producer Serengeti Energy, together with its local partner have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire. The signing ceremony, held in the presence of the Direction Générale de l’Énergie, marks a significant step forward in developing a 50 MWp solar power plant in Sinématiali, located in the Poro region of northern Côte d’Ivoire.

This solar project aligns with Serengeti Energy’s focus on West Africa as a key area for renewable energy development in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, it contributes towards Côte d’Ivoire’s goal to increase the share of solar and other renewable sources in its energy mix. The project supports local and regional electrification goals and reflects Serengeti Energy’s commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions in West Africa.

Serengeti Energy’s CEO, Anton-Louis Olivier, commented:

“This MoU is a significant milestone in our mission to expand renewable energy in the region. Sinématiali’s strategic location and strong grid connectivity make it an ideal site for this solar project. We are committed to enhancing energy efficiency and promoting sustainable development across sub-Saharan Africa.”

In addition, Serengeti Energy’s West Africa Development Manager, Lamine Ndour, commented:

“Following our activities in Senegal, we are proud to expand into Côte d’Ivoire with the Sinématiali solar project. We are committed to working with our local partner, who has a strong focus on socioeconomic development in northern Côte d’Ivoire, to deliver this project successfully.”

A kick-off meeting with key stakeholders to initiate project development is planned for the near future.
