On 6th November 2024 Serengeti Energy and Join for Water (JFW) officially handed over the Kalere Trading Centre Water Facility to the Kitagwenda district local government. As part of Serengeti Energy’s commitment to sustainable community development, this milestone follows the successful completion of the Protection and Conservation of Water Resources (PCWR) initiative, a five-year project designed to restore, preserve natural resources and provide reliable, clean water access. The project was funded through Serengeti Energy’s Technical Assistance Facility (TAF), with contributions from TAF’s donors, KfW, KOICA, NDF and SECO.

The handover ceremony was officiated by local leaders of Kitagwenda district, led by Resident district commissioner (RDC), Nuwagira Nocholas, District Internal Security Officer (DISO), Twinamasiko Rolland, Chief administrative Officer (CAO) Nakityo Joanita and Senior Assistant Secretary (SAS)/Sub County chief, Kabagambe Iyam Ernest. Their presence at the event reflects the district’s strong commitment to the project and its vital role in the region’s future in sustainable water management initiatives.

Located in Nyakacwamba Parish, Ntara Sub-County, the projects success was a joint effort with Join for Water (JFW), and implementing partner Joint Effort to Save the Environment (JESE), together with the support of Kitagwenda District Local Government. The project has brought significant livelihood improvements to local communities by providing safe, piped dedicated water points to over 8,000 residents across eight villages of Kalere, Mpanga, Rwengwe, Kapapali, Karubuguma I, Karubuguma II, Nyakacwamba I, Nyakacwamba II, in the district of Kitagwenda, Ntara Sub- County marking a major step forward in ensuring long-term access to clean water.

We believe the government will continue to support this community by ensuring the continuity of this project for many years to come.

The handover ceremony, which took place at the village of Kalere was also attended by local government officials, community leaders, project partners, and community residents highlighted the collaboration between all parties. The event also acknowledged KfW, KOICA, NDF and SECO, whose support through Serengeti Energy’s TAF has been essential in making the project a reality. The event marked the official transfer of management responsibilities to local stakeholders, ensuring the continued operation and maintenance of the facility.
