Serengeti Energy is committed to developing, constructing, operating and decommissioning our projects in accordance with the Equator Principles, the IFC Performance Standards, and host country legislation. Our Environmental and Social Management System serves as the framework managing project-related environmental, social or governance responsibilities and risks.

We are committed to maintaining good relationships with the communities impacted by our facilities. We identify stakeholder and community concerns during all the phases of a project’s life cycle and address these concerns through a number of mechanisms, with a focus on the mitigation of and compensation for direct project related impacts.

In addition, Serengeti runs a Community Impact Fund, funded by the company’s shareholders, as a mechanism to implement further corporate social responsibility activities. Our Impact Fund Project programmes focus on education, environment, and activities that support income generation and skills development.

We actively encourage meaningful community engagement and consultation throughout the project cycle and manage community concerns and expectations through our grievance management procedure.

COMMUNITY

We build and maintain positive relationships with local communities, obtaining social license to operate, and addressing community issues and concerns into project design and delivery plans is paramount to Serengeti Energy.

We participate in meaningful community engagement and consultation throughout the project cycle, implementing sustainability measures through CSR and livelihood restoration programs, and managing community concerns and expectations through structured information disclosure.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

Serengeti Energy strives to continuously improve health and safety performance through a positive safety culture, robust work procedures, sound management processes, and staff training programmes.

We commit to zero harm philosophy and to operate a healthy and safe workplace so that all work-related activities are illness, injury and fatality free.

IMPACT

At Serengeti Energy, we believe that our success is not only measured by our financial performance but also by the positive impact we have on the communities and countries, across sub-Saharan Africa that host our projects. To account for the development impact, a framework has been developed by linking Serengeti Energy’s 6 Impact themes with the global agenda of the UN Sustainable Development Goals that call for all countries and parties to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality and tackle climate change by 2030.
