Serengeti Energy’s Environmental & Social Governance mandate is to effectively manage risks and opportunities related to environmental, social, and governance criteria throughout the project development cycle. This includes ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all stakeholders, minimizing negative environmental impact, and building and maintaining positive relationships with local communities.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

We strive to continuously improve the health and safety standards and practices through proactive measures by creating awareness of a safety culture through leadership and attitude influence.

Our line managers constantly evaluate, and control risks associated with health and safety and are directly responsible for safety in their areas of operation.

ENVIRONMENT

We focus on sustainable management and enhancement of the environment in which Serengeti Energy operates. To achieve this, we ensure there is minimal negative environmental impact through long-term environmental management, benchmarking against IFC Performance standards, and adopting a project development to operation approach.

COMMUNITY

We build and maintain positive relationships with local communities, obtaining social license to operate, and addressing community issues and concerns into project design and delivery plans is paramount to Serengeti Energy.

We participate in meaningful community engagement and consultation throughout the project cycle, implementing sustainability measures through CSR and livelihood restoration programs, and managing community concerns and expectations through structured information disclosure.

SUSTAINABILITY

At Serengeti Energy, we believe that our success is not only measured by our financial performance but also by the positive impact we have on the communities and countries, across sub-Saharan Africa that host our projects. To account for the development impact, a framework has been developed by linking Serengeti Energy’s 6 Impact themes with the global agenda of the UN Sustainable Development Goals that call for all countries and parties to end extreme poverty, reduce inequality and tackle climate change by 2030.
